If I am to choose one of the most heart warming and memorable wedding shoots I have done this year, it would be Aljhay’s and Cherry’s wedding in Iloilo.
I and my team flew there last June to cover the wedding. It was then that I learned about her and Jay’s story.
Cherry met Jay in a church service in 2006. He was invited by her church mate, and later became her friend. By then, she was telling him about her crush, and he was telling her about his (who happened to be her cousin).
“I know that walang gusto yung cousin ko kay Jay. So I advice him to move on and find another girl. Sobrang emo nya…sabi ko kawawa ang babae pag nagka gf to,” Cherry said chuckling.
So Jay had another relationship which didn’t work out that well too. And so the two of them became even closer- even after he flew to Manila to study. When he went back to Iloilo for vacation, she felt something. She was falling in love with him.
But she was 5 years older than him! Said her mind who was in a serious work of brushing off her feelings.
“I’m always praying to God na send someone who will love and accept me as I am. Yung magiging friends muna kame.
Until one day.
Jay confessed to her and lay down what he wanted – a serious relationship. But afraid as she was, she demanded they start with MU (like, seriously?). And loving as he was, Jay accepted.
Then he called her and it turned out he changed his mind. He didn’t want the MU idea. It would be a serious relationship or they’re better off friends (you’re the man Jay).
Guess what?
She said ok. And so poor Jay was rejected the second time.
“I love him too but I’m scared because of my situation. I can’t walk straight because I had an accident when I was a kid. I look like I have a polio. I really have so much insecurities.”
“I prayed hard that night and I ask Lord if Jay really is the man for me, give me a sign, and I’ll give this one a try.”
Then 6 hours later, Cherry was awaken by a ringing phone. It was Jay (the persistent guy!). He was asking her again.
After almost 7 years, they got married.
There were struggles along the way. Cherry told me there were many times they were fighting over many things when he went back to Manila. She became too emotional and too caught up with anger.
LDR guys.
But when Jay came home, they settled all and decided to “settle” for good as well.
It was one of the most inspiring stories I have ever heard about among my clients in a wedding shoot. I feel blessed that I am among the lucky ones to witness such a precious moment in their lives.
I wish you two a happy life together! I will never forget your story.
Trivia:
They kissed for the first time in their wedding!
